IT Plus English And Maths For Adults

This course is for beginners and for those wanting to brush up their IT, English and Math skills. You will learn how to use the keyboard and mouse, work on improving your spelling and reading, use browsers to search for information on websites, work on your basic math skills using websites, games and personal budgeting apps. You will need to come for an assessment before you start. These courses are FREE. The class will take place at Blackfriars Settlement, 1 Rushworth Street, London SE1 ORB.
  • Who is it for?

    This course is for students with a low level of English, Math and IT. It is also for students who lack confidence and want to brush up on skills they already have and learn new ones.
    Please make sure you have at least E2 English/ESOL. You will need to come for an assessment before you start.

  • What does it cover?

    A chance to gain basic computer skills such as word processing, internet searching and email. At the same time improve your English and Maths with the help of your tutor.

    1. You will learn how to use the mouse, key board and desktop to open apps, type and drag and drop icons or images
    2. You will learn how to add, take away, multiply in a range of practical contexts, such as working at the till, using supermarket checkout and personal budgetting
    3. You will improve your spelling of key words, sounds and letters using websites, games and other apps.
    4. You will improve your ability to write sentences by sending messages using email and smart phones

  • What will it be like?

    This course is very practical. You will learn by doing. You will learn in small groups and you will sometimes learn alone. You will complete worksheets, play games, use websites and apps to work on your basic skills. You will work with your fellow students and you will also work with your tutor.

    Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
    Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
    One-to-one and group discussion.
    How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
    Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    You will only need a note book and a pen for this course.

  • What could it lead to?

    There is no exam at the end of this course and there is not qualification. The course is designed to help you develop confidence and skills on an on-going basis. If you feel confident and ready to progress there are any number of basic skills courses you can do at the Mary Ward Centre, either a stand-alone IT course, or and English course or a math course.
