Level 1 Essential Digital Skills Qualification

  • Who is it for?

    This is a fast-pacing certified course for those who have some experience of using computers and want to gain a national recognised qualification. In this course you will develop further your digital skills for work and everyday life, it can be next step for students who have completed Essential Digital Skills qualification at entry level 3.

    Please ensure your English level is at E3/L1 English/ESOL to join.

  • What does it cover?

    This course will cover all five areas set out in the national standards which are:
    - Using devices and handling information,
    - Creating and editing documents with Word, PowerPoint, Excel
    - Communicating
    - Transactions,
    - Being safe and responsible online

    You will cover all the areas required for the skills and knowledge exams during the course. At the end of the course, you will need to pass both practice exams (Skill exam and Knowledge exam), before you can sit to the main skill and knowledge exams.

    You are expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course. We kindly ask that you avoid booking holidays during this course. If you happen to miss two consecutive sessions without prior agreement with the tutor, there's a possibility you may be withdrawn.

    You will need access to a computer and the internet to practice regularly on between classes and to complete homework and assignments, as well as actively participate on the Moodle page of the course. You must be committed take two final online exams.

  • What will it be like?

    Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. Group discussions.
    Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, reading handouts and following instructions. One-to-one and group work.
    How students are assessed: Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet.
    Homework will be regularly set; it will form part of your learning towards your qualification.
    Upon successful completion of two online exams (Skill exam and Knowledge exam), you will receive BCS EDSQ L1 qualification.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    You will need to bring a folder to keep the handouts you will receive in class. Also, a notebook and a pen to take notes. A USB memory stick to store homework.
    You need to have access to a computer and the internet for practicing and completing homework.

  • What could it lead to?

    At the end of the course, you will decide with your tutor which is the most appropriate next course for you. You can continue with other qualifications such as Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ICDL EXTRA) or go for one of our short courses.

Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ICDL Extra)

Do you need to improve your digital skills to help you in your job or to find work? This qualification is for aimed at students who have good knowledge of using computers. It is designed for to improve your IT skills required for the modern workplace. The course will focus on three key programs used in employment: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Upon successful completion of four online exams, you receive the BCS Level 2 Award in IT User Skills (ICDL Extra) (ITQ). ( Formally known as ECDL)
