Lunchtime Yoga

This Hatha yoga class offers the opportunity to de-stress in the middle of your busy day. After a busy morning, an hour of yoga can help to help revitalise you for the rest of the day. The class includes a variety of asanas (postures) to stretch and strengthen your body, as well as a short relaxation and breathing meditation.
  • Who is it for?

This is a mixed levels course that includes standing and floor based movement. Students attending have different levels of experience and fitness. Beginners are welcome but might like to consider attending the Back to Basics course first.

  • What does it cover?

During this course we practise different aspects of yoga to help quieten the mind and stretch and strengthen the body. We start with an opening relaxation enabling mind and body to connect before progressing to a gentle warm up to mobilise the joints and aid good alignment. Over the length of the course students have the opportunity to become familiar with a variety of yoga postures (asanas) to aid strength and flexibility.
Regular attendance is important as each class builds upon material covered in previous weeks.

  • What will it be like?

At the start you will be asked to complete a health check form regarding your general health and make an assessment of your current knowledge of yoga.
Students follow verbal instructions and physical demonstrations by the tutor. Occasional hands on adjustments will be given. Students are encouraged to ask questions to assist their learning. At times there may be some pair work to enhance learning and technique.
You will be asked to evaluate your progress during and at the end of the course.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

Comfortable loose clothing, such as T-shirt, footless jogging bottoms or leggings. Students can bring a towel to cover mats if they wish. Practice is undertaken barefoot unless you prefer to bring non-slip yoga socks. Mats, blocks and belts are provided.

You should come to class with an empty stomach or have waited at least 2 hours after a light snack before doing a yoga class. It is preferable not to drink water during class, however have water with you to drink after class.

Students wishing to have water in the studio should bring a bottle or cup, as the fountain there is designed for filling only.

  • What could it lead to?

The tutor will advise. Note: Students who wish to continue on the next term must enrol in advance.
