This course is for you if you want to improve your skills in using mathematics for work or everyday life and gain maths qualifications step by step. It will make maths real and help you to understand and use maths competently in solving practical problems at work or home. To get on the course, you need to be able to do some simple arithmetic - for example order, compare and use whole numbers up to 100; add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers; use halves and quarters; and solve basic practical problems that people would normally come across when shopping, working or doing DIY - for instance, working out the total cost of groceries and the change you would get from a given amount of money. It is particularly suitable for students who want to work at a slower pace.
On this course, you will practise:
How to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
How to use fractions, percentages and decimals
How to measure lengths, weight, capacity, time and temperature
How to calculate with lengths, weight, capacity, time and temperature
How to interpret and use graphs and charts
How to work with ratio and scale
It will be different from the way you learned maths at school. The activities will vary and include discussions, group work, individual work and quizzes, all in a very supportive environment . You will have fun, work hard and get what you put into the course. There will be a focus on practical maths.
You will have lots of individual attention from the tutor as well as the support of your classmates.
A file to keep your work in
A4 lined paper
A calculator would be useful
A pen
After successfully passing this course, you will be ready for Entry Level 3.
