Anyone with basic computer skills who needs to be able to make better use of the MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). The Stage One course will get you started. You may then choose to do Office Essentials Stage Two then a course in Excel or PowerPoint to extend your skills.
The basic features of wordprocessing with Microsoft Word; basic presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint; basic spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel; basic use of Outlook for email and Calendar.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
' To identify and use the basic aspects of Word required to create a document
' Formatting basic documents in Word
' To identify and use the basic aspects of Excel required to create a spreadsheet
' Formatting simple Excel spreadsheets
' To identify and use the basic aspects of PowerPoint required to create a slide show
' Formatting simple Slide and run Slide Show
' Identify and use the basic aspects of Outlook used in an office environment - send internal email
Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives.+ Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet.
Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions

How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.

Need to know more about Excel but don't know where to start? This first stage course covers Introductory level topics including worksheets and workbooks, calculations, formatting, printing, charts, functions, formulas, cell references, datalists, introduction to macros and program options. This Stage course will cover the more advanced features of Excel- goal seek, what-if analysis, data tables and filters, conditional formula, pivot tables and advanced use of charts. From macros make use of Visual Basic within Excel to build automated and customised solutions.
