This course introduces learners to the foundations of corset and corset-inspired bodice making. With corsets and structured silhouettes in fashion you’ll learn how to create a pattern for your chosen corset or corset-style bodice
You will learn to understand the key differences between traditional corsets and modern bodices and apply multiple drafting techniques to achieve accurate shaping and design details to your chosen style.
You will be working to have a finished pattern of your chosen corset/bodice and a well-fitting toile ready to make in your final fabric
By the end of this course learners will be confident in constructing a corset bodice;
Distinguish the differences between traditional and fashion corsets; identify all the components needed to make a functional bodice.
To do this course you must have basic maths a minimum requirement of introductory pattern cutting skills, and dress sewing skills.
The course includes an opportunity to visit some historical corsets. The main of the course will be learning practical pattern cutting skills as well as working on your own individual styled pattern. You will use sewing machines to make your toiles.
You need to bring your own pencil pen and notebook- you may want to buy corset components discussed with you during the course.
You will need to buy calico for toiling; a tracing wheel; drill holer a pattern master or set square.
