This 6-week course provides a clear and highly structured introduction to ceramics, guiding students step-by-step through the full process from raw clay to finished glazed pottery.
You will learn the three core hand-building techniques — slab building, coiling, and pinching — and understand the essential stages of the ceramic process, including drying, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing.
The course is designed to be specific and technique-led. Each week builds progressively, ensuring that beginners gain confidence in material handling, construction methods, and surface finishing.
By the end of the course, you will complete at least one finished glazed piece and gain a clear understanding of the ceramic workflow.
By the end of the course, you will:
• Understand the full ceramic process
• Use slab, coil, and pinch techniques confidently
• Apply slip and glaze appropriately
• Produce at least one completed glazed ceramic piece
• Gain confidence working independently in clay
Complete beginners
• Students with little or no ceramic experience
• Those wanting structured technical learning
• Those interested in building confidence before moving into more independent work
No prior experience is required.
You can enrol on other pottery courses to develop your skills.
