The course is open to writers of all levels. If you are a complete beginner, you will be welcomed into an open, warm and un-judgemental environment to share your work with peers. If you’re a seasoned writer, you’ll gain new insights from potential audiences and writers of all skill levels. We’ll use our experiences to inform our writing, which means everyone in the group has important insights to share.
Each week we’ll explore a particular theme, looking at examples of writing and working on writing exercises. We will think about how our individual stories fit together in broader histories of Britain and the world. By the end of the course, students will feel more confident with a greater sense of voice. Students will develop skills and confidence in creative nonfiction writing, speaking, and critical reflection and reading.
The class is open and fairly informal. We will create guidelines together so that everyone is comfortable sharing their personal stories and writing, in an accountable and responsible environment. You’ll try out new exercises and approaches to writing in a semi-structured manner, with time dedicated for discussion of ideas, reading examples of great writing, and peer review.
No materials required.
Following this class students may wish to continue writing alone, in groups, and in further writing courses.
