  • Course Overview

This course is for beginners and people with some experience of watercolour already; you will explore techniques for capturing the snow scenes through watercolour’s luminosity and transparency. We will cover how to show light and shadow on trees and snow, texture, and temperature using limited palettes and controlled washes. The session includes demonstrations of how to paint winter landscapes using resists such as salt and wax; building a painting with transparent layers of colour, and experimenting with negative painting and masking to suggest crisp highlights. Taking inspiration from Mary Feddon’s art ,other artists and reference photos you will develop watercolour techniques. Emphasis is placed on understanding cool and warm contrasts, subtle shadows, and atmosphere. By the end, participants will complete finished snow-themed paintings conveying depth, calm, and the essence of winter light.
