Beginners Reading And Writing – Class and Online
If your reading and writing skills need work then these are the right courses for you. These courses
are for ESOL students who are learning to read and write. You will learn how to write your name and
address, read and write everyday words and build your literacy skills even if you cant read or write in
your own language.
Who is this course for
This course is for people who can speak some English but find reading and writing more difficult. Some students might not be able to read or write in their own language.
What does this course cover
Some students might learn how to read and write their name, address and some common words others might learn to read short texts. Students will learn to recognise and use simple punctuation e.g. full stops and capital letters, write basic sentences and fill in simple forms.
What will it be like
Some sessions on this course will be run online using Zoom, other sessions will be in the classroom.
There will be group and pair work to support students with their learning. Lots of work will be individualised.
What else do you need to buy or do
The course will be run on Zoom, please make sure you have installed it in advance of your first class on your computer or mobile device. You can sign up for free here:
You will need a microphone and camera, so we can see you via video, but your phone, tablet or computer will probably have one. You can use headphones during the session if you want to.
Please note that if you used you might not be able to do everything in the session.
Make a small space to work in quiet so that you can concentrate on what is happening in the class.
By signing up to the course you are consenting to being on camera. The content of the lesson may occasionally be recorded by the tutor for internal education and training purposes but any such recordings will not be made available to anyone outside of the Mary Ward Centre organisation without us asking you asking you again for further permission to do so.

What this course could lead to
As a student becomes more able to read and write in English it might be possible to enter ESB Entry 1 reading or writing exams or even move into mainstream classes.
