Who is this course for

This course is suitable for students wanting to learn about glass fusing. It is suitable for beginners and those with some experience who want to develop their work further and there are often returning students.

What does this course cover

For the first 5/6 weeks there are optional taught projects exploring a range of fusing techniques, students can either participate in those or work on their own projects. For the second part of the course everyone will work on their own project with tutor support. We sometimes go on a class trip to a Gallery, and look at slides of other maker's work.

What will it be like

The class is friendly and relaxed and offers students a space to develop their ideas in fused glass. Techniques are demonstrated and I also show lots of images to help generate ideas. I see each student for a one to one chat to check that they are happy and clear about what they are doing.
Progress is monitored through tutorial support and self-assessment.

What else do you need to buy or do

All materials for the first half of the term are provided, materials for personal projects should then be purchased by students, I will suggest suppliers at the relevant time. We do also provide some frits for general use. It is helpful to have a sketchbook /notebook and to collect images for inspiration and visual reference.

What this course could lead to

Students can develop their skills further by taking a course in Glass Painting; Stained Glass or Mosaic Art.
