Herbalism For Beginners – Short Course – Online
Learn how to safely and effectively use simple herbal remedies for common minor health problems, including traditional remedies using ingredients commonly found in the kitchen. We will look at how plants, food, and lifestyle play a vital role in our health.
Who is this course for
No previous knowledge or experience required. This is an introductory course open to those interested in learning about kitchen & plant remedies and how to use them safely.
What does this course cover
An introduction to the potential healing properties of plants. Learn how to use simple herbal remedies, including traditional home remedies using ingredients commonly found in your kitchen safely and effectively for common minor health problems. We will also look at how diet and lifestyle influence health. You will have the opportunity to try some of the herbs and be encouraged to make some preparations at home. Students will be able to make a simple herbal preparation and know how to work with it therapeutically.
What will it be like
The methods of teaching and learning include formal teaching, questions and answers, brainstorming, discussion, group and pair work and some individual work.
Handouts are provided for each each lesson electronically, relating to topics covered in that session.
Students are assessed informally through observation, their level of questioning and answering, and through feedback. Each lesson begins with recapping on what was delivered in the previous lesson.
What else do you need to buy or do
You may want to buy or borrow a herb reference book.
Extra study/practice: students will be asked to make at least one simple herbal preparation: estimated cost £3-5. Reading of the handout provided at the end of each session is also recommended to enhance and reinforce learning and understanding.
What this course could lead to
Once you have completed this course students may follow on with the Herbs and Body systems course and or any other introductory complementary health courses.
