Intro To Singing Online

This new Online singing class for those who want an introduction to singing. Perfect for those who would like to start exploring their own voice and learn some new (and old) songs. Learn to enjoy singing in a group context, and develop a solid singing technique. No previous singing is necessary, just a desire to learn more. This course will take place online, so all singing will be carried out in the comfort of your own home!
Classes will involve some self study and information being sent to you via email.
The course will be run online using Zoom, please see below for more details.

Who is this course for

For complete beginners as well as those who have some experience but want to expand their repertoire, learn more of the basics of singing and increase general musicality. This course is for anyone who loves to sing but lacks confidence and experience and who wants to learn about and explore their voice in a friendly group setting

What does this course cover

In the course we will cover the basic building blocks of healthy singing, connecting body and mind to the creation of sound. We will explore different ways of singing as well as basic rhythm and harmony work.
The repertoire will cover a wide range of music styles from more traditional to contemporary.
Your Tutor Cecilia grew up in Stockholm, Sweden where she attended one of Sweden's finest music colleges, Stockholms Musik Gymnaisum, specialising in choral singing. Before moving to London she spent many years working at youth camps, working with young people and setting up theatre and music productions.
In London she has continued singing in various choirs, and is currently a member of the six-piece electronic drone choir NYX. NYX makes experimental, experiential, ambient, noise & electronic music, and looks to reshape the role of the traditional female choir.
Cecilia has been teaching at Mary Ward since 2018 and runs a variety of music groups and classes for the college.

What will it be like

The Singing for Beginners course will take place online, via conferencing software app Zoom. You will be able to talk with and see the other members of the class, but the singing will take place predominantly with muted microphones, so you will get used to hearing your own voice! We may at times unmute to sing together.
There will also be video and audio content for you to use in-between the sessions.
There will be weekly activities to give you the chance to rehearse songs in your own time, and at the end of the 4 weeks you will have the opportunity to submit something, audio or video. This and attendance will form the basis of your assessment.

What else do you need to buy or do

You will need to download (free) Zoom software on your computer or mobile device. You will need a microphone (it's fine to use whatever is built in to your device) and you may want to use headphones during the session. Also make sure you have a space where you feel free to sing your heart out!
You can sign up for free here: https://zoom.us/support/download

By signing up to the course you are consenting to being on camera. The content of the lesson may be recorded by the tutor for internal education and training purposes.
