Leonardo Da Vinci – His Genius

If you have always wondered how certain things came to exist, about inventions, airplanes, anatomy, early science, art, paintings, literature and geniuses, and the one man who managed to inhabit intelligence to make this happen, then this is the summer course for you. We will discover the genius of Leonardo da Vinci; explore his inventions and contributions to modern day science and everyday lives, browse through his art work and life and learn how da Vinci's work of 500 years ago still plays a vital part of our lives now.

Who is this course for

This summer course is for everyone interested to know more about Leonardo da Vinci and his life, work, contribution to science and society, his innovations, his background and life. No prior knowledge is required and students of all levels are welcome to join this course.

What does this course cover

By the end of the summer course, students will have learn about Leonardo da Vinci, his life, his work as well as what makes him a genius who was well ahead of his time. The students will also have learnt the living situations, social, historical and political conditions of the time, all of which impacted on Leonardo da Vinci. Students will have been able to recognise the gist of da Vinci's art work from visual documents as well as recognise some of his writings. They will have become familiar with his contribution to the fields of science, anatomy, medicine and technical innovations.

What will it be like

There will be a mix of interactive PowerPoint lecturing, incorporating visual material as well as a range of student activities. These include interactive activities, reading material, evaluating visual material, pair and group work and analysis of material.
How we assess your progress on the course
The progress will be assessed via displayed understanding of the lectured topic, via successful completion of interactive activity in pairs or groups as well as contribution to group discussion.

What else do you need to buy or do

There will be handouts and worksheets distributed during the class however, students are advised to bring a pen and a notebook to make notes.

You will need a microphone (it's fine to use whatever is built into your device) and camera, so we can see you via video. You may also want to use headphones during the session.

What this course could lead to

This course could lead to a full course on Leonardo da Vinci run during the 2020/2021 academic year or to other history courses such as da Medici Family. This summer course could also lead to courses in literature, art and creative writing.
