MS Office Essentials For Work – Stage Two
If you feel you can already effectively use MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) but need to hone your skills for employment this is the course for you. It will not cover the basic features of these programs but will include the more complex everyday tasks required in the working environment. Students will need to be sure of their level of computer knowledge before enrolling on this course. Please ask for advice if you are unsure.
Who is this course for
This course is not for Beginners. Please take the MS Office Essentials for Work Stage One if you need to cover the basics. If you feel you can already use Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) to some degree but need to hone your skills for employment, this may be the course for you. You will need to be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint before enrolling. This course will cover the everyday tasks required in the working environment but not the basic features of the Office programs. Students will need to be sure of their level of computer knowledge before enrolling on this course. It is essential that the student has experience of Windows and File Management
What does this course cover
The more difficult features of PowerPoint, Word and Excel that students will already have been taught on courses or when taking ECDL but have found difficulty using. For example, templates in PowerPoint and formulae in Excel. The basic usage of Outlook is also covered. Basic file management will also be covered
By the end of the course you should be able to:
' To create Folders and Sub Folders for file management purposes
' To identify and use the aspects of Word most required in an office environment.
' Create Tables, Tabs in Word
' Use Mail Merge including static and data sources in Word
' to identify and use the aspects of Excel most required in an office environment i.e Relative and Absolute Addressing, Goal Seek
' Format Conditionally, Tabs including names and colour in Excel
' Identify and use the aspects of PowerPoint most required in an office environment including Slide Layouts and Organizational Charts
' Identify and use the most essential aspects of Outlook used in an office environment - including Group Contacts, Signatures, Calendar scheduling
What will it be like
Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives.
Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement check box sheet.
Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
One-to-one and group discussion.
How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.
What else do you need to buy or do
Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre. As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere or from homework given by the tutor.
