Learn how to overcome negative self talk and discover ways to attract success in all areas of your life. This is a practical and experiential course that is open to anyone, at any level. It is for both personal and professional development. It will be of interest to anyone who enjoys writing or journaling or for those who wish to build their confidence and resilience using therapeutic writing.

It will be of interest to anyone who enjoys writing or journaling or for those who wish to build their confidence and unlock their creativity using therapeutic writing.
No previous experience of poetry or expressive writing is required, just a willingness to share, reflect and experiment with words in a supportive environment.
What does this course cover
Research over the last 30 years has found links between writing, health and wellbeing.
This course offers students an opportunity to experience the power of therapeutic writing and writing for wellbeing. The course is experiential and practical. You can expect to, experience various reflective and expressive writing exercises, using prompts such as: words, poems, post cards, positive affirmations, stories, unsent letters, acrostics and metaphor.
By the end of the course students should be able to:
- Name the benefits of writing for wellbeing
- Identify two ways of how poetry therapy increases self-awareness and self esteem
- Explain the difference between creative writing and therapeutic writing
- List three different poetry therapy / therapeutic writing techniques
What will it be like
The teaching and learning methods we use on the course are:
- Tutor led presentations and demonstrations
- Group activities and discussion
- Creative and expressive writing exercises
- Practical tasks / Writing Prompts
- Guided imagery and a range of creative exercises facilitated by the tutor
Your progress on the course will be assessed by the following methods.
- Peer and self assessment
- Quizzes/ Games/Crosswords
What else do you need to buy or do
All art materials and poems are provided, but please bring your own notebook.
We suggest: A new notebook - one that you can use just for this class and between sessions
A pen or pencil which enables you to write quickly and freely.
