Secrets And Lies

Are you fascinated by how to tell what a person is really thinking? How can we tell when someone is lying? What can we tell about someones personality by their possessions? How do we navigate relationships and negotiation? This course will look at psychological research to help us try to understand what is happening beneath the surface of our daily interactions.

Who is this course for

Anyone who is interested in understanding human behaviour. Students may have studied Psychology previously e.g. Introduction to Psychology, but this is not mandatory

What does this course cover

On this course we will be looking at the psychology of what lies behind what is said in order to give you more of an insight into dealing with others
This includes examining
- how can we tell when someone is lying
- what do a person's possessions say about their personality?
- how do we understand negotiation and human relationships?

What will it be like

A number of different methods will be used including didactic teaching, small and large group discussion. A number of case studies will be used (both written and video clips) to illuminate the academic psychology.
There is no formal assessment on this course, assessment will be through discussion and self assessment

What else do you need to buy or do

Please bring pen and paper. A reading list will be provided in class for those that would like to study the topics in more depth.

What this course could lead to
