An hour of singing to boost your mood and connect with other singers! Delve into good singing technique, explore the connection between body, mind and voice and develop your musical ear. This course will take place online, so all singing will be carried out in the comfort of your own home. All you will need is a desire to use your voice.
Who is this course for
For those with a little bit of singing experience, although complete beginners will also find the class accessible. We will learn most songs by ear and will touch on some music notation, but it is not a prerequisite to be able to read music. This course is for anyone who loves to sing, and who wants to expand their repertoire and explore their voice in a friendly group setting.
What does this course cover
We will cover the basic building blocks of healthy singing, connecting body and mind to the creation of sound. We will explore different ways of singing as well as some rhythm and harmony work. The repertoire will cover a wide range of musical styles from more traditional to contemporary. We will work in session and there will be opportunities for self-study.
What will it be like
This course takes place online, via conferencing software app Zoom. You will be able to talk with and see the other members of the class, but the singing will take place predominantly with muted microphones, so you will get used to hearing your own voice! We may at times unmute to sing together.
There will be weekly activities to give you the opportunity to submit something. We will be working towards recording a song by the end of the 12 weeks and these + attendance will form the basis of your assessment.
What else do you need to buy or do
You will need to download (free) Zoom software on your computer or mobile device. You will need a microphone (it's fine to use whatever is built in to your device) and preferably use headphones during the session. Also make sure you have a space where you feel free to sing your heart out!
