WordPress For Web Design
Learn how to use this open source software (free to download) to create websites, blogs or apps. This course is designed for students who have completed the introductory course or have some knowledge of WordPress. It is not a beginner's course and students need to be computer literate and used to working with Windows.

Who is this course for
Anyone who wants to use WordPress which is a popular website builder to install and set up a site. Students may be new to WordPress/blogging but will need to already have basic computing skills and experience of using a web browser / internet on a PC. This course is designed for students who have completed the introductory course or have some knowledge of WordPress. It is not a beginner's course and students need to be computer literate and used to working with Windows.
What does this course cover
The course is taught using MWC hosted service, Differences between this and self-hosted WordPress sites, will be discussed.
All the basic features required to design and create a functioning website using WordPress:
What is WordPress?
Dot Com Vs Dot Org, modifying and deleting web pages, adding text, pictures and video, managing a blog and its appearance using Themes
Learn the WordPress concepts of Posts, Pages and Themes
Be able to create and manage a simple WordPress website
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Understand the differences between host and self-hosted WordPress sites,
Understand the WordPress concepts of Posts, Pages and Themes
Create a simple WordPress site
Create and modifying and deleting web pages
Adding and modifying text and video in a website
Sourcing, editing and uploading images
Creating and managing a blog
Changing the appearance of a WordPress site using Themes and Customise
Use Widgets and arrange in sidebars
Use the Gutenberg editor and using blocks
What will it be like
Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives.+
Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet.
Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
One-to-one and group discussion.
How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.
What else do you need to buy or do
Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.
As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere or from homework given by the tutor.
