Counselling Level 3 – Advanced Learner Loan Information

CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Applied Counselling Studies (CS1032)
Provider: The Mary Ward Centre

This page explains the funding options available for the Level 3 CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Applied Counselling Studies and provides important information about the Advanced Learner Loan (ALL).
Please read this information carefully before deciding how you would like to pay for your course.

What is an Advanced Learner Loan?

An Advanced Learner Loan is a government-backed loan designed to help eligible adults pay for approved courses at Levels 3 to 6.
The loan is paid directly to your college or training provider to cover your tuition fees. You do not receive the money yourself.
You will only begin repaying the loan after you have completed or left your course and your income is above the repayment threshold set by the government.

Am I Eligible?

To apply for an Advanced Learner Loan, you must meet the eligibility criteria set by the government.
In most cases, you must:

  • Be aged 19 or over at the start of your course.
  • Be studying an eligible qualification.
  • Have been living in the UK for at least three years immediately before the start of your course.

Full eligibility details can be found on the government website.

Applying for an Advanced Learning Loan

If you decide to fund all or part of your course with a loan, please note the following:

  1. You can apply for an ALL online at https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan.
  2. You must make sure you provide complete and correct information when you take out the loan and you must tell SLC about any changes to these details or your circumstances during the application process, while you are studying with us, and until you’ve repaid your loan in full.
  3. The maximum loan amount you can apply for is either the fee we charge, or the maximum amount set by the government, whichever is the lower. You can review the qualifications which are eligible to be funded with loans, and the maximum amount of loan available at https://www.qualifications.education.gov.uk.
  4. The government maximum loan amount for this course is £811. The course costs are more than the maximum loan amount, therefore you will need to pay the difference directly to us – £1479. This “top up” can be paid in a lump sum or in instalments.
  5. The minimum loan amount you can apply for is £300. SLC will process your application and will write to you confirming the outcome of your application.
  6. SLC will pay the loan directly to us as your chosen provider/training organisation.
  7. You begin to repay the loan through the tax system when you complete or withdraw from the course and earn more than the repayment threshold. Please visit https://www.gov.uk/repaying-your-student-loan for more information.
  8. You can access up to 4 loans in a lifetime either one after the other or at the same time. Additional rules apply for A Levels (up to 8) and Access to HE (one only)

For further information about ALL, please refer to the National Careers Service website: https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that the advanced learning loan is the best option for you.
