  • Course Overview

    This nationally recognised qualification is for people who are fluent in English and another language.

    Applicants must have some experience, paid or unpaid, of interpreting in a public sector context in the UK. Some of this experience should be with people not previously personally known to the applicant.

    Admission is by Tutor Approval Only, and including an Initial Assessment Test.

  • What will it be like?

    Additional Online Friday sessions (10:00-17:00) - 27/10/2026; 24/11/2026; 19/01/2027; 02/02/2027

    2 x Tuesday sessions to be delivered online instead of in-class (dates tbc)

    20 sessions in total (16 x Tuesdays; 4 x Fridays)

    The course uses teaching and learning methodology which involve the participants exploring their own experiences and the needs of their own communities. Methods used are group work, pair work, role play, case studies, presentations from tutor and visiting speakers, workshops for the assignments.There is a considerable amount of research which participants are expected to undertake during the course.

    You will receive ongoing assessment from their tutor and from peers.

    You will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed by your tutor and language assessors, inlcuding videotaped evidence of role plays.

    Successful completion of all modules of the course will result in the award of the Level 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting (Ascentis).

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    All courses are delivered as blended courses, i.e. with 16 weekly in person classes and 4 online sessions.

  • What could it lead to?

    Successful students will be invited to attend a recruitment fair to find voluntary/ paid interpreting work. Students can also take further courses to develop their skills such as telephone interpreting and managing complex cases. See the prospectus for more details or speak to your tutor.
