We provide courses that are perfect for people who have English as their first language or have spoken English from a young age but want to improve their reading and writing skills.
Students on our English Literacy courses will gain confidence in speaking and listening skills and develop their reading and writing too. We offer specialist support for students with dyslexia and specific learning differences. Students will work towards exams in speaking and listening, reading, and writing.
Course Structure
Classes are usually once a week, morning, afternoon, and some evenings, provided in both Mary Ward Centre and Blackfriars Settlement. Teachers at the assessment will talk to students about what is best for them.
Highly qualified, professional teachers will support learning from start to finish.
Towards the end of each course, teachers will give advice about next steps; whether this is the next level or a whole new avenue, to get people into work, a new job or develop further life skills.
Fees
For most people living in London, Essential Skills courses will be free. Teachers will discuss fees with students at assessment.
Advice and Assessment
An assessment is required for all essential skills courses, to book an assessment:
