This workshop will spend 2-full-days (20th & 22nd July) teaching you about handbuilding with nerikomi or mixed clay and niage, throwing with mixed clay. We will look at how to colour clay with oxides and
talk about glazing possibilities. The 3rd day (30th July) will be a glazing session.
The workshop is ideal for people who have some knowledge of handbuilding and
throwing. Ideally people who want to throw should be able to centre on the wheel and
make a cylinder. If you only handbuild, this workshop is suitable for you.
The tutor will demonstrate on making nerikomi using 2 types of clay as well as colouring
clay with oxides. Students can decide on what they want to make or can be guided by
the tutor. Demonstrations on throwing or niage will happen throughout the 2 days. If pieces are fired, they will be glazed.
Look at videos on YouTube or instagram to familiarise yourself with nerikomi
techniques and come to class with an apron or something with which to protect
your clothes.
