This course is aimed at learners who can communicate confidently in familiar and some unfamiliar situations, although their language may still lack precision at times. It is suitable for students who have completed French Stage 3 or who already operate at CEFR level B1 and wish to strengthen and extend their skills.
The course focuses on developing greater fluency, accuracy, and independence in French. You will broaden your vocabulary and improve your control of key grammatical structures so you can express opinions clearly, justify ideas, narrate past events, and discuss abstract or topical issues. You will also work on understanding a wider range of authentic spoken and written materials, including news reports, podcasts, interviews, articles, and short literary texts.
All four key skills – speaking, listening, reading, and writing – are developed in an integrated way. Activities are designed to help you communicate more spontaneously, adapt your language to different contexts, and engage more confidently in extended conversations and discussions.
Stimulating themes and real-world materials will deepen your understanding of contemporary French-speaking cultures and perspectives, while supporting more nuanced and personal self-expression.
Where possible, course content will be adapted to reflect learners’ individual goals, interests, and real-life language needs.
By the end of the course, learners will be working towards CEFR level B2, with increased confidence using French in social, educational, and professional contexts.
Lessons are interactive and learner‑centred, with an emphasis on communication rather than memorisation. Students take part in guided speaking practice, role‑plays
and short listening and reading activities, allowing them to use French actively in a supportive environment. Speaking practice is encouraged from the start, and regular feedback helps learners build confidence as the course progresses. The content is carefully structured to ensure a gradual progression and to prepare learners for further study at the next level.
This course runs throughout the year in three stages: 4A in Term 1, 4B in Term 2, and 4C in Term 3.
