  • Course Overview

This course is for adults who are curious about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and want to understand it in simple, practical terms. You don’t need any experience with AI—just basic confidence using a computer and the internet

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

describe what AI is using simple everyday examples

identify a few ways AI is used in daily life, work, and learning

use the free version of Microsoft Copilot to complete a small guided task (e.g., summarise text or generate ideas)

write and improve a basic prompt to get a more useful answer

explain why AI answers are not always correct and name simple ways to check results

follow basic safety and privacy guidelines when using AI tools

Please ensure your English level is at E3/L1 English/ESOL to join.

  • What will it be like?

This course is practical, supportive, and designed to build your confidence through hands-on learning. You’ll use real devices and everyday tasks to develop your digital skills step by step. Each session is led by a friendly and experienced tutor who will guide you through each activity, helping you make steady progress with both your skills and your confidence. The tutor will also provide clear, easy-to-follow written handouts so you can review what you’ve learned at your own pace.

To get the most out of the course, it's a good idea to practice and complete homework outside the classroom.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

You will use the computers provided in the classroom. Please bring a notepad, a pen, and a folder so you can keep your handouts safe and organised.

You do not need to have your own computer at home. You can practise using the free computers at the Centre, or you can use computers at your local library in London.

  • What could it lead to?

Your tutor will give you guidance on the best next step for you.

Depending on your interests and confidence, your tutor may suggest other digital skills courses, such as Excel courses, Essential Digital Skills, or other short courses. Your tutor will also share the list of AI courses currently on offer for this term or for future terms, so you can see what you may like to study next.
