The course is suitable for beginners and for those who already have some experience.
The course is about learning, and developing how to, design for glass by working with colour, texture and light and using additional decorative techniques in order to make stained glass panels.
You will learn/develop all the skills and techniques needed in order to make a stained-glass panel:
developing a design
drawing a cartoon and, from it, make an accurate cutting pattern
cutting glass
leading
soldering
cementing
finishing
You will also be introduced to copper foiling and different paint techniques for decorating the glass surface.
You will be taught using a variety of teaching methods including presentations, practical demonstrations, group and one-to-one tuition and discussions. An initial assessment at the beginning of the course will establish your starting point including skills, experience, confidence and preferred learning styles.
It will also give your tutor an indication of your personal objectives. Subsequently, your tutor will be observing and discussing with you your progress at each stage, making suggestions as to how to improve your skills and achieve your objectives.
At the end of the course you and your tutor will discuss your achievement and what you need in order to improve.
You must have good hand strength, dexterity, good eyesight and be able to stand and cut.
An interest and enthusiasm for the subject is a must.
If you are pregnant, you should consult your GP before enrolling on this course, as working with lead and solder could be harmful to the developing baby.
It is essential that you are able to stand, have good eyesight, good concentration and manual dexterity, also be able to understand verbal instructions and safely use the workshop equipment.
You should NOT wear open shoes

Glass, lead paint etc for initial small panel approximately £15.00.
Subsequently the costs will be dependent on your design and scale of project.
Tutor will be able to advise you on where to source materials.
A basic range of glass and lead will be available for purchase.
Returning learners are encouraged to acquire their own tools

Black felt pens, i.e. Staedtler Permanent Lumocolor pens (fine and medium) or Sharpie
Drawing paper
Ruler and set square
Rubber
Craft knife
Masking tape
Workshop clothes or apron
