    Whether you’ve never picked up a pencil or are returning to drawing. This course will help you build confidence and develop a Strong Foundation in drawings skills. Beginners very welcome! No previous knowledge or experience necessary.

    Its a great course for those just starting out and for those wishing to study the fundamentals in a progressive step by step manner.

    This course will cover all the fundamentals of drawing from marking making to drawing basic shapes and slowly advance in complexity.

    Students will learn to draw and understand- Line- Planes-Tonal values-Texture-Perspective and composition.

    Students will be drawing from Art, From direct observation and even from imagination.

    Students will explore how drawing has been use to understand the world, too record and express ideas across the centuries.

    There will be an opportunity to pursue your own subject interests in drawing and you are encouraged to bring resource materials for your own use.

    By the end of the course you should be able to:

    Create a likeness of your subject. Understand proportion, tonal values, perspective, and space.

  • What will it be like?

    "The class will take place in a regular class room, equipped with desk easels and everything you need to start drawing. The tutor will introduce the subject of the lesson with live demonstrations followed by individual guidance and support with one on one tuition.

    At then end of each class there will be a 'gallery' at the end where each student can show their work for feedback in the form of constructive criticism from the tutor and other students.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    The college will provide basic media and equipment, but you will need to start to buy your own kit if you want to practice at home. Graphite pencils grades 2B-6B, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, a ruler, an A3 drawing pad and masking tape will is a great place to start.

  • What could it lead to?

    Join other Art classes at Mary Ward Centre. There is an accredited programme of art Pre-foundation and Foundation Access to HE at Mary Ward Centre. Incorporate drawing practice into further art activity and projects.
