Who is this course for?
You will already know how to use your digital camera and understand the basics of digital photography but want to progress your technical understanding into creative style.
What does this course cover?
Increased understanding of camera and lens technique
Photography studio portraiture lighting styles
Still life with low and high key photography
Landscape photography composition and panoramas
Long exposure photography with neutral density filters
Control of ambient and artificial lighting with flash
Settings for bracketed exposures and HDR photography
When to compose in black and white / monochrome
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
Understand your camera better and know what settings and lens to use when photographing in different situations
Understand how to balance different light sources including flash for fill light and learn about studio lighting styles for still life and portraiture
Use some of the features of Adobe Lightroom including editing composite images such as panoramic and high dynamic range photographs
Develop your experience with different photography genres from landscape, still life and portraiture and know where to take your photography next.
Course topics will be supported by handouts, videos and practical sessions with individual help and guidance as you try out new techniques with your camera. Self-study assignments will help you continue to learn after class. As you grow more confident, you will discuss photographs in class and learn by seeing the images made by everyone else in the student group during the weekly feedback and review sessions.
You will need to bring your own camera, which can be a digital SLR, mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, or an advanced compact camera. You will need to use the internet and have a tablet or computer to access course materials and upload photographs to Moodle, the online learning platform.
Students completing this course can develop further photography editing skills by enrolling on the Adobe Lightroom photography course.
