Students will learn the essential techniques used in traditional silk painting and textile surface design, including:
• Stretching silk onto frames
• Applying gutta resist to create outlines
• Painting with silk dyes to create flowing colour effects
Before the workshop, students are encouraged to prepare a small mood board or visual inspiration for the design they would like to paint onto their silk sample.
During the workshop students will experiment with colour blending and pattern creation while developing a personal sample library of silk painting techniques that can be used as inspiration for future textile work.
By the end of the session you will produce your own hand painted silk sample and gain the skills to continue exploring this decorative craft.
The workshop will be led by fashion designer and tutor Anastasia Kuatkhina, specialising in slow luxury craftsmanship and bespoke garment design.
