Felting is an ancient non-woven textile technique involving matting woollen fibres to create a dense, compacted structure. Felt is an easy material to embroidery, creating the possibility for many exciting colour combinations, patterns and textures through the shrinking process. The session will include:- An exploration of the unique properties of wool The basic wet felting technique Blending colours, creating patterns and exploring texture Embroidering on felt Adding needle felted embellishments Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this course offers a relaxing and creative environment to develop your style and experiment with the unique properties of felt. |
In the first session we will create a series of small felt samples, exploring colour, pattern and texture, through layering and manipulation. While in the second session, we will focus on embroidering the felt, with simple stitches to enhance the patterns or make bold textural statements. Although the emphasis is on making small to medium sized experimental samples, participants could use their felt pieces to create a practical object.
We will provide all the basic equipment you need for the course.
