This is a mixed ability jewellery and silversmithing class suitable for beginners, intermediate and those with more advanced abilities.
This course is specifically designed to enable you to:
Learn how to use a variety of jewellery making tools and equipment safely and competently.
Learn to solder silver and copper together to make pieces of jewellery.
Make rings, pendants, chains, fittings, bangles, and stone settings.
Apply the skills to create your unique designs and make jewellery.
Develop a professional approach to all stages of the processes.
Learn where to buy metals, stones and equipment.
Advanced or experienced learners will be shown more technical skills to add to their skills set.
You must have good eyesight, have high levels of concentration, good hand strength and dexterity as you will be using a fully equipped workshop with blow torches and hammers, piercing saws and more tools.
It is essential that you are able to stand, have good eyesight, good concentration and manual dexterity in using the Kiln, workshop blow torches and other workshop equipment. You must also be able to understand verbal instructions and safely use the workshop equipment.
You will need to buy some tools for your own use, metals, i.e. copper, and silver that you will use. Copper and silver are available to buy at the Institute. You will need to purchase stones to use in the projects. Your tutor will provide all the information you need in the first session.
