  • Course Overview

    Create jewellery and small objects using wire working techniques. Ideal for beginners, those with some jewellery experience or glass artists wishing to learn a new skill or combine projects.

    Develop skills to design and create wirework jewellery. You will learn basic techniques of working with coloured wire to create JEWELLERY or DECORATIVE OBJECTS

    Suitable for complete beginners. Also ideal for those who have some jewellery experience but wish to add to their repertoire.

    You will be learning techniques for working with coloured wire to create decorative objects or jewellery.

    You will be exploring:

    The properties of wire - what it can and can't do

    Basic weaving techniques

    Bead setting

    Shape and form

    Simple and more advanced projects will be provided. Students are welcome to develop own ideas

    You will learn basic techniques for working with wire such as:

    different weaving techniques

    a variety of beading techniques

    forming and shaping wire-work

    You will learn to make your own jewellery. The course aims to provide you with all the essentials needed to continue on your own.

  • What will it be like?

    This is a practical course where you will be making jewellery and / or objects from coloured wire.

    This will be supported via:

    Demonstration

    Handouts

    Group discussion

    Individual advice and guidance

    Ongoing verbal feedback throughout the course

    Informal group reviews

    Self -assessment

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    Basic materials such as coloured wire and beads will be provided. Additional materials are available at low cost if you wish to use them.

    All equipment provided.

    You may wish to bring a note or sketch book.

    This course is ideal for those wishing to learn a simple technique which can be developed at home.

    There is no formal homework set, but you are encouraged to develope your skills and ideas on your own.

  • What could it lead to?

    1. Continue to practise at home to improve skills and knowledge learnt

    2. Design your own projects, keep sketch books to draw your ideas

    3. You will get to a stage where you are able to make wire work jewellery for friends and family

    4. Sell your work in fair or online

    5. Create your own business
