This course is for beginners and people with some experience of watercolour already; Explore the romantic, visionary landscapes of Samuel Palmer through expressive drawing in ink and luminous watercolour layering. Activities include layering transparent colours, and integrating pen texture to suggest depth. you will explore techniques for capturing tonal landscapes particularly at twilight or night. The session includes demonstrations of how to paint autumnal and night landscapes using warm colours taking inspiration from Samuel Palmers’ art, other artist; and with reference photos you will develop watercolour techniques combined with pen and ink.
The course will take place in a classroom and there will be some basic materials provided.
Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with images. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.

How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.
Group tuition and individual tuition will be given. There will be practical demonstrations and students will be doing practical art work. At the end there will be a time of looking and evaluating your artwork as a group with constructive feedback.
You will need to bring 300gram cold pressed watercolour paper; A3 size is best; Watercolour brushes and paints, dip pen and Indian Ink black or brown and a small piece of white candle wax. The tutor will email you a list of materials and suppliers.
