Illustrator - Introduction

This is the course for students wanting an introduction to the software used for graphic illustration and drawing techniques. Widely used in the typesetting and logo graphic areas of design it is a course of special interest to those interested in graphic design, website development or video and animation production.
This is an introduction to Adobe Illustrator and is suitable for beginners. The course will cover all the basics of using this vector graphics programmes and will introduce students to the skills that are used for graphic design, typesetting and creative work.

    Illustrator environment; Creating Shapes, Control Stroke and Fill; Rotate tool; Reflect tool; Free Transform tool; Clipping Paths; Bezier Pen tool; Create Patterns; Create Gradients; Place Images; Create Brushes - Pattern, Art brush; Type Options - Warp and Filters; Live Trace tool; Design a logo.+ Illustrator environment; Creating Shapes, Control Stroke and Fill; Rotate tool; Reflect tool; Free Transform tool; Clipping Paths; Bezier Pen tool; Create Patterns; Create Gradients; Place Images; Create Brushes - Pattern, Art brush; Type Options - Warp and Filters; Live Trace tool; Design a logo.+

  • What will it be like?

    Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives. Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet.

    Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
    Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
    One-to-one and group discussion.
    How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
    Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    Students will need to bring along their own USB memory stick, min 4GB.
    Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.
    As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere or from homework given by the tutor.

Lightroom Digital Photography - Intermediate

This course is aimed at students who have begun to master their digital camera and want to learn how to edit the images to get the results you want. Adobe Lightroom is the industry standard application used by photographers to edit images. This intermediate course will take you through digital post-production techniques using Lightroom, from opening images and file organisation to editing and exporting your photos in different formats.

Photoshop - Introduction

A chance to gain understanding of Photoshop. The essential features that you will require for
photograph, image and scanned image manipulation. You will learn about image selection tools, blending, modes, layers and layer effects, groups, patterns, styles, vector objects, adding text, clipping, masks and filters, history panel, history brush and snapshots.

Photoshop For Artists And Designers

A course for Creatives to learn how to use Photoshop to produce and manipulate digital illustrations from hand drawn artwork. Students must be comfortable using computers and have some drawing experience. This course is not suitable for those who are not computer literate and is aimed at aspiring artists who would like to develop their knowledge of digital art, taking existing artwork into the digital medium and learning various ways to expand and enhance it.
