Spanish 4B

  • Who is it for?

This course is for students who have studied Spanish for three or four years. They should also have a good grasp of grammatical structures and be reasonably fluent.

  • What does it cover?

You will be able to practice and improve your conversational, as well as your understanding in the language in a small group within a relaxed communicative atmosphere debating topical issues related to Spain as well as exploring aspects of Spanish culture through the media.
You will also consolidate grammar notions and learn new vocabulary.
We begin by setting out the main structures you have already learnt and then proceed further to the other complex structures of the language by covering topics such as: current affairs, travel and transport, hobbies and interests, culture and society, customs and traditions and topics from everyday life.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
    - be more confident in speaking Spanish
    - express opinions and ideas by using a wider range of vocabulary
    - extract specific information when listening to dialogues
    - extract detailed information from newspaper articles.

  • What will it be like?

The emphasis on the course will be on developing confidence in speaking and reading and so the activities used will be communicative. There will be small group work, pair work, whole group discussion and debate, roleplay, games, presentations by the tutor and the students, video, audio and the use of the internet.
We assess your learning in order to recognise and record your progress and achievement (RARPA). This is done through continuous dialogue, correction of homework and active listening, tutor's feedback oral or written, feedback on your worksheets or assignments, your own views, peer or pair assessments through role play activities. A structured assessment will take place at the end of the course.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

A ring-binder or file to put notes in. Materials will be provided by the tutor. You will be given homework to revise their learning and to prepare for the next lesson. It is expected that you do regular self study to further your language learning. You should spend some time every day practising the language. Independent work will be encouraged, and presentations (by students) integrated into the course.

  • What could it lead to?

Your tutor will advise you about the available options.
