Glass Painting Weekend
This two day course will give those who are new to kiln fired glass painting an opportunity to explore this ancient craft and produce small painted glass pieces that can be displayed against light. Those who have some experience of glass painting can explore more ambitious projects.
Who is this course for
This new course is suitable for complete beginners and those students with some experience who would like to further develop/explore new approaches and techniques for kiln fired glass paint.
What does this course cover
The aim of the course is to design and paint a small panel for a glass painting project.
The class will cover:
' Learning about the different vitreous glass paints and application including tracing and shading
' Mixing, applying and manipulating glass paints using a range of specific brushes, pens and other tools
' Exploring traditional and experimental glass painting techniques
' Understanding kiln firing temperatures for vitreous glass paints
' Identifing Health & safety procedures for working with glass, lead and kiln fired glass paints
What will it be like
Students will work on individual projects with one to one guidance at beginning on their designs. Work in progress will be assessed through one to one and group feedback with a final group evaluation at the end of the session.
Short illustrated lectures on historical and contemporary glass painting will be given and demonstrations given on technical and artistic processes. Health & safety and technical handouts will be given.
What else do you need to buy or do
Materials such as glass paint and small pieces of glass will be provided. It is recommended that students bring in some visual source material to work from such as photos, sketches etc, though images to use for designs will be provided.

Further stained glass and glass painting courses including the 'Painted & Stained glass' courses run as part of Mary Ward art & craft programme.
