This course would be for students who are studying Maths Entry 3 and Level 1 who need to reinforce their calculation skills to pass their Non-calculation exam or for students who would like to reinforce learning around how to calculate the four rules (+, -, ? and ?) and fractions, without using a calculator.
Place value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division and fractions
Students would be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers/decimals and add and subtract fractions with the same denominator without using a calculator
Active learning, student centred activities will support learning.
Individual, pair or group activities will be used to provide challenge and help students develop strategies to work without a calculator.
Learning will be assessed by asking and answering questions, circulating and marking homework and mock tests
Students only need to buy a squared notebook, an eraser, pen, pencil and a folder to keep their handouts
Other maths courses, level appropraite at Mary Ward or equivalent elsewhere.

In the evening classes you will work towards Functional Skills Level 2. You will need to come for an assessment before you start. These courses are free.
